Environmental Laboratories
When it comes to the environment, there are a variety of organizations and agencies that are tasked with the responsibility to protect and monitor the environment and identify any possible environmental contaminants and provide solutions that help benefit both the world around us and the businesses, groups, and individuals who provide necessary products and services. A part of these organizations that are responsible for the care of the environment, environmental laboratories play an integral role in making sure that our effects on the environment are as minimal and as safe as possible. And while there is a large variety of environmental laboratories that conduct various services and testing, the one thing that binds all of these different laboratories together is concern for protecting and preserving the environment around the world.
Most commonly, environmental laboratories offer a variety of testing services that make sure soil, water, and solid samples meet EPA and other local and state requirements. The tests that are conducted in environmental laboratories must be in compliance with EPA, federal, and state guidelines. These tests can look for a variety of substances in material samples, including but not limited to: petroleum hydrocarbons, herbicides, pesticides, volatile organic compounds, semi-volatile organic compounds, PCBs, metals, waste, inorganics, and more.
Without the specialized services provided by environmental laboratories, it would be much more difficult to find, analyze, and remedy environmental hazards that are oftentimes found in the areas where we live, work, and play. These laboratories are truly indispensable!
